TSN European Watch: Adam Boqvist & Filip Zadina
As the Trade Deadline approaches, GMs have been prepping their rosters for their playoff push. We’ve seen big names move such as Mitch Marner and Brent Burns so far. With that said, we’re going to shift our attention overseas, to two potentially elite young players that might make an impact sooner than you think. Adam Boqvist has been turning heads for Brynas in the SHL and Filip Zadina has been great for HC Dynamo Pardubice in the ExtraLiga. Zadina looks ready for a top 6 role already, while Boqvist might take a bit more time, but his raw offensively abilities give him an elite ceiling. Here’s our TSN Profile on each player.
D Adam Boqvist OFD – 5’11 170 R (21)
Boqvist’s agent tells me that Adam was quite insulted that all 30 teams passed over him in 2018, which ultimately left a chip on his shoulder. Scouts questioned his play in his own end and were wary of his size. Over the course of the past two seasons, Boqvist earned more trust with Brynas and has been able to showcase his offensive talents, with 40 pts in his 36 games so far this season. It’s clear he’s gifted offensively and has potential to be an elite puck mover in this league. Will his game fully translate? We’ll see, but Boqvist could be a gift that GMs only dream of.
LW Filip Zadina TWF – 6’1 192 L (21)
Hurt during his draft year, Zadina’s stock has risen immensely. He has gotten better each season in the Extraliga and has brought his game to a whole new level his year. Zadina can be described as both a two-way forward with a well-rounded game and a dominant offensive force. He plays a north-south style and is great at protecting the puck. He can drive to the net on the rush plus he’s great at hiding his release and has an accurate shot. This gives him multiple dimensions and a real offensive threat. Zadina will likely slot in on a team’s 2nd line next season.
